What is Staatsexamen.lu?

Staatsexamen.lu is a help to prepare for the Abstract Reasoning Test (Logic Test) of the state exam in Luxembourg, which accounts for 50% of the final score. Logical thinking can be trained! Staatsexamen.lu offers the opportunity to practice tests similar to those in the luxembourgish state exam.

Staatsexamen.lu is not an official site of the luxembourgish Ministry of Civil Service / GovJobs!

Why use Staatsexamen.lu?

  • Tests exactly like in the exam! Even the sample tests on the luxembourgish Ministry's / GovJobs's website do not match the format and complexity of the questions in the exam! Staatsexamen.lu offers tests in exactly the form and with the details like in the state exam! With these tests, you won't lose time during the exam getting used to the new structures that only exist in the state exam version in Luxembourg.
  • The abstract reasoning test in the luxembourgish state exam makes up 50% of the final grade. An average grade in the abstract reasoning test doesn't leave much room for error in the other tests. Conversely, this also means that an above-average result in the logic part allows for more room for error in the other areas.
  • No need to buy expensive and outdated books that don't cover various exam instructions or go into details that are not needed in the state exam in Luxembourg (and may confuse individual candidates). The version of the test used in the state exam is not available anywhere else!
  • After each test, you receive an explanation for each question about the changes. This allows you to find out where your thinking errors lie.
  • The grade in the state exam in Luxembourg is relative to the results of other people who took the test at the same time. This means that even if you score well, but there are others who had a more logic-heavy study and thus achieved an above-average result, your grade may be below average. Practicing the test as it appears in the state exam is a significant advantage!
  • It's not useless to prepare oneself! Even if, in theory, you don't need to study for the luxembourgish state exam anymore, many people still fail in each period! Staatsexamen.lu is a help, so it doesn't come to that.

How do these tests work?

The abstract reasoning test in the luxembourgish state exam measures a person's ability to deduce rules from abstract data and apply them to new data. This provides insight into a person's ability to work flexibly with new information and find solutions.

Each exercise consists of two types of figures, called "base figures" and "final figures." Between these two types are one or more symbols, each representing an instruction. In the state exam, there are 7 instructions:

Instruction
Basic figures
Final figures
Color change of figures
Shape change of figures
Size change of figures
Add or remove horizontal line
Add or remove vertical line
Rotation of figures
Permutation of 2 figures

The goal is to find out which symbols represent which instructions, and then apply those instructions to a given figure.

Basic figures
Final figures
F7
F7
F3

In the example above, we see that instruction F7 turns a small white circle into a large white circle. Furthermore, we see that with instructions F7 and F3, a small white square becomes a large black square. Since we already know that the size is caused by instruction F7, we can deduce that instruction F3 corresponds to a color change! The instructions are explained at the end of the test to help you understand the results.
